Nicole Pondell, Psy.D.
Nicole Pondell, Psy.D. is a psychologist licensed in the state of Arizona. Dr. Pondell works as an independent contractor and works with other established agencies to provide assessment, evaluation, and treatment for individuals whom have been accused of or convicted of a sexual offense. Therapeutically, Dr. Pondell has worked with and provided treatment and interventions for children ages 8 to 12, while employed at Youth Development Institute (YDI), adolescents ages 13 to 17, while on internship in California, and youthful adults ages 18 to 25, and adults ages 26 and older, while completing her post-doctoral residency and as a psychologist, who have acted out sexually.
With regard to assessment and evaluation, Dr. Pondell has evaluated people who have been referred for a psychosexual or risk assessment from the Department of Child Safety- DCS, Maricopa County Adult Probation and Other County Probation Departments, Sexual Violent Person (SVP) Screening Evaluations, and Private referrals. Dr. Pondell has also completed Rule 404 (b) and (c) comprehensive reports by completing a thorough review of collateral data to determine Rule 404 (b) and/or (c) and integrate the data into a comprehensive report.
Dr. Pondell started to work with children and adolescents who have sexually acted out at YDI located in Phoenix, AZ as a youth care worker (behavioral health technician) for over 1 year. Dr. Pondell worked at Child Protective Services (currently Department of Child Safety- DCS) in Maricopa County for 5 years as a case manager to promote child safety within the family with the goal of reuniting the family with their children if appropriate. A practicum at PCS under the supervision of Dr. Steven Gray created Dr. Pondell’s interest in assessment and evaluation of individuals who have been accused of a sexual offense with the goal of preventing future victims of sexual abuse. While on internship, Dr. Pondell co-led Juvenile Sexual Offender (JSO) process groups that addressed inappropriate and maladaptive sexual behaviors. She completed her post- doctoral training under the supervision of Dr. Tina Garby and Dr. Gray while at PCS. During the post-doctoral training period, Dr. Pondell led several court ordered probation groups per week, administered testing to complete psychosexual risk evaluations, and incorporated the testing into comprehensive reports. Upon completion of the post-doctoral training, she was given the opportunity to work for PCS as an independent contractor. Dr. Pondell has worked as an independent contractor since 2013 providing treatment to those individuals on probation mandated (court ordered) to treatment and conducted psychosexual risk evaluations. Dr. Pondell has provided services to specialized populations such as Severely Mentally Ill (SMI) probationers, Borderline Intellectual functioning probationers, transgender individuals, and those probationers who have been convicted of prostitution and pandering. Additionally, Dr. Pondell has provided services via an interpreter and translator in several different languages as well as to the hard of hearing and deaf. Within the past 2 years, she has expanded her interests to include Rule 404 (b) and (c) comprehensive reports and Sexual Violent Person (SVP) Screening Evaluations. She has been working as an independent contractor for Oasis Psychological Services since April 2016.
